Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 April 2026
Nyelo ("we", "our", "the app") is a private family management application. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we access, why, and how we protect it.
What Nyelo Does
Nyelo helps families manage shared calendars, meal logs, and household organisation. The app connects to external calendar services (Google Calendar, Apple iCloud) to display and manage events on your behalf.
Data We Access
When you connect a calendar account, Nyelo accesses:
- Calendar event data — event titles, dates, times, locations, and descriptions from calendars you explicitly choose to connect.
- Calendar metadata — calendar names and identifiers, used to let you select which calendars to display.
When you use the meal log, Nyelo stores:
- Meal records — meal names, ratings, tags, and any notes you choose to enter.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to provide the app's functionality to you and your family. Specifically:
- Calendar data is read and written to display your schedules and create or edit events at your request.
- Meal log data is stored to maintain your family's meal history and power discovery features like suggestions and statistics.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, analytics, or any purpose other than providing the service to you.
Data We Do Not Collect
Nyelo does not collect or store:
- Personal demographic information
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioural tracking data
- Location data (beyond what you enter in calendar events)
Google API Services
Nyelo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Specifically:
- We only request the calendar scopes necessary to read and write calendar events.
- We do not transfer Google user data to third parties unless necessary to provide the service, required by law, or with your explicit consent.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising or to train AI/ML models.
- A human may review your data only for debugging purposes at your request, for security purposes, or to comply with applicable law.
Data Storage and Security
Calendar authentication tokens are stored server-side using encrypted key-value storage (Upstash Redis) hosted in the EU. Meal log data is stored in the same infrastructure.
Access to the app is protected by a PIN code. Calendar data is fetched in real time from your calendar providers and is not permanently cached on our servers.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal data with any third party. Your data is only transmitted to and from the calendar services you have explicitly connected (Google, Apple).
Data Retention
Calendar authentication tokens are retained for as long as you keep the calendar connected. If you disconnect a calendar, the associated tokens are deleted.
Meal log data is retained for as long as you use the app. You can delete individual records or all data at any time.
Your Rights (UK GDPR)
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for calendar access at any time by disconnecting your account
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
Children's Privacy
Nyelo is a family app and may be used by household members of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children independently — the app is managed by the adult members of the household.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date.
